Once there was a Cat called Callum. He was always teased because he always had to sit by the classroom heater in the winter and Callum was sooooo ugly.

Finally the Cat got sick of the cold, “what is warm, comfy and looks great?” said the cat. So he covered himself in super glue and then rolled around in a blanket till it sat perfectly on his back. All was going great, until the glue dried. Suddenly the cat felt a sharp pain in it’s back heard someone quietly saying “let me out! Let me out!” It was Wayne the wasp. So he tried to take the blanket off, but the superglue had dried and wouldn’t budge. So the wasp stung Callum all over, but especially on the top off the neck and end off the back. Callum was disappointed with himself, why had ever glued the blanket on? He thought.

After many sweaty hours in the sun the glue finally melted. When Callum threw off the blanket Wayne flew away as fast as he could. In extreme pain the cat slowly made his way to the local chemist. Because of the stings Callum couldn’t see properly so he grabbed the closest medication and took it to David the dog and paid for it. Soon after he took the medicine and went to sleep. He woke in the morning with no blankets on his bed because he was so hot. He went to school and everybody was looking at him, thinking how cool he was. When he got out his work for the day he noticed fur on his arm and then looked at his body, he had fur all over and was so happy!

That’s how the cat got it’s fur.

Last week the Black Caps played against Bangladesh in Cricket. It was to be held in Bangladesh and was thought to be an easy win for New Zealand, it was far from it. The New Zealand’s key players in this test were Daniel Vettori and Jacob Oram as they both scored well in the batting and Vettori taking many wickets. Bangladesh’s key players were Mushfiqur Rahim, Saqibul Hasan and Mehrab Hossain jnr.

In the first innings Bangladesh were batting first, They manged to reach 245 runs before getting out. Next it was New Zealand up to bat, they started poorly and were all out for a very low 171 runs. Meaning they were already 74 runs down, could they catch up?

Bangladesh were ready to bat again, they scored a consistent 242 runs. Vettori showed great skill against the Bangladesh batsman taking 4 wickets alone. Then it was New Zealand’s turn to bat, they required 317 runs to win. Many people were in doubt about in New Zealand winning. New Zealand started well and looked confident but were still a long way from winning the test and a test it was. New Zealand had never won overseas in a test when required to get over 200 before, but this was the day that it changed. We had won, behind the great captaincy of Daniel Vettori who had received man of the match.

My Maths goal is to: stay up to date with my work,

I can achieve this by working in my own time if I get too far behind.

My English goal is to: make sure to punctuate all of my homework tasks,

I can do this by starting my tasks slightly earlier so I have more time.

My Homework goal is to: try a few different sites for my book review,

I can do this by not choosing one straight away and go back to look at others.

My Band goal is to: learn the position of flat and sharp notes so I know them as soon as I look at it,

I can do this by checking them and eventually I will learn them from doing this.

My French goal is to: learn more key words,

I can do this by saying the word and its meaning a few times after I learn it.

My P.E. goal is to: get into at least 1 sprint final at athletics day this year,

I can do this by staying active and going for an occasional sprint.

My Tech-Art goal is to:  make new foods in the food cycle and then make them at home,

I can do this by offering to cook dinner one night.

My Inquiry goal is to: help as much as I can to finish our video,

I can do this by ignoring all distractions.

We have had Belmont students at our school for this year’s sports exchange. I hosted a boy called Tim, we got to know each other really well and had a lot of fun playing badminton, at the school disco, on the playstation and a lot more. But finally what they had come to do, play sports. I was in the cross-country, it had never been a sport before and I decided to race as I wasn’t in a sport. Tim was in soccer. I walked the cross-country track and then returned to the start, we had never run the track before so neither our students or Belmont’s knew the track. It was a great race and I really enjoyed it, as I was allowed to run over the farm which had previously been too wet to run. Overall I got 5th, although it didn’t seem great it was the best from our school. Although they had their best racers and we didn’t. After the race I got to watch Tim play soccer in the second half of the game, I thought he was pretty good and stopped a lot of people from shooting for goal. Later that day we had the disco, it was a lot of fun and both Tim and I enjoyed it.Sadly the next day Tim was leaving, it felt weird without him there as I was almost lonely at home that night. Overall it was a very successful exchange and T.A.I. managed to come out with a win, 8 games to 6. I hope to meet Tim again someday as I believe he was a great friend

Not too long ago I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to go on our schools Ski Trip. Incase you aren’t sure of what type of skiing I am talking about we were on the snow. Throughout the trip the weather was a problem, the first day we had to go to the other side of the mountain as it was too windy and poor visibility. Other problems were lightning, the resulted in us having to walk from the bottom of the ski field to the top, this was not a fun experience as it isn’t easy walking in heavy skiing boots.

The main part was that we were still skiing. It was a lot of fun and all 20 of us that went greatly improved on our skiing ability. Sadly we hadn’t been able to ski the upper mountain due to the weather. This is one of the more difficult tracks. I would’ve loved to ski that part.

Overall it was a great experience and I met a few new people riding the chairlifts. I would love to do this again some time. I think having all of the other students with me was another great part as I always had someone to ski with.

The day came, we were playing to become the winners of the 2008 11th a pool. We were up against Hamilton Marist, we had already played this team and won 19-17. But none of that mattered, it all came down to this, the whole season and my last season for Te Awamutu Sports Junior rugby grade and maybe even Te Awamutu Sports altogether.

I woke early and couldn’t wait, we left for Hamilton. I arrived slightly late and warmed up. The time finally came, we walked onto the field and prepared for the match.

The whistle went and the ball flew into the air, we were tackling for basically the whole first half. We managed to hold them out, the score was 0-7 and they had the lead. I had a late chance at the end of the last half but kicked and now when I think about it I should’ve ran it.

The second half began, we scored early and missed the kick. Not much happened after this, they repeatedly scored and finally the last whistle for my junior rugby career was blew.

We had lost, the final score was 20-5. Our team were pretty disappointed, but we had still made it to the final. We were awarded with a medal each. I then left and watched the rally.

After having a draw in our first game and a loss the second time against this team we had to win it. It was a semi-final and all of our team wanted to make the final. I arrived at the grounds and found our team. We talked about what we needed to do. After this we began to warm up and do stretches. We again talked about what we needed to do.

We finally took the field and we were eager to win, the game finally began. We were the first team to score, but the conversion was missed. We again scored after with no conversion. After a fast 35 minutes of rugby it was the last play, I then kicked the ball out making it half-time.

We were so pleased with the current score but after having them come back in the second half in a different game, we knew we hadn’t won yet. So we again took the field hard on defense.

We played hard always thinking that if we didn’t win this we wouldn’t be in the final. We played hard but I believe some of our team became tired. We again scored but after Frankton, thus making it 15-5. We really needed to work as we know what Frankton are capable of. Frankton again scored and converted. 15-12, we were in the last 8 minutes and needed to hold them off. Time slowed but finally we had won, we were all so pleased that we had made the final.

We made our way off the field and handed out the ”player of the day” awards. It was a great game and all of our team will be training hard for the grand final. I can’t wait!

I woke up, it was raining and then I remembered, cross-country. I was tired but still couldn’t wait to race. Last year I pulled a muscle in my leg and came around 57th, I was determined to beat this by a lot. I arrived at school and the day flew by. Lunch came and it poured down with rain all lunch, but luckily it stopped almost at the same time as the bell rang.

We went up to the ALC and waited for all of the other classes to arrive, we were racing last and had to wait most of the afternoon only seeing the racers leave the ALC. Then our time came, we stretched our muscles and made our way down to the starting line. We weren’t running on a farm we usually use as it was to wet and muddy.

The race began, the track was a mud hole already as everyone else had raced. We crossed the road and for about the first time ever I didn’t stand on any stones. The leaders were pulling away from me but I didn’t mind, I only wanted to get into the top 20. I slowly passed people who had used all of their energy sprinting at the start.

I finally reached the last section of the track, I started to go faster and realized that I was beginning to pass all of my friends. I reached the last straight, amazingly I was in ninth. I heard someone sprinting to pass me before the finish, I dived after he passed me hoping to get ninth place. It took the teacher a little while to decide but he finally gave out the cards. I had come 10th, I wasn’t disappointed that I had been passed at the end. I had missed out in getting into the school team but I didn’t mind, all I had aimed to do was beat my result from last year and try to get into the top 20.

I think that all the rugby I have been playing really helped my fitness as I am a sprinter, not a long distance runner. It was a great day, I had heaps of fun and our class is confident that we will keep the cross-country shield.
